Project Overview
Social Equity Program
JA Africa has a presence in 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with a wide variety of youth empowerment programs in motion. The Social Equity Program (SEP) particularly tackles the challenges of youth not in education, employment, or training (NEET), while addressing the issues of social equity, mental health, and sustainable development. The initiative seeks to equip Africans ages 16–25 with the skillset and mindset they need to enter the job market, achieve financial independence, and drive change in their communities.
NxGen COACH Network™ streamlined and enhanced the core curriculum of the SEP by incorporating the Leadership Capital Framework and 5 Cs. Team leaders from each country were trained on how to utilize the framework effectively.
The Leadership Capital Framework can be found in "The Treasure You Seek: A Guide to Developing and Leveraging Your Leadership Capital" by Archie L. Jones, Jr. The curriculum been rolled out to youth in seven countries so far: Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, and Uganda.
I discovered some of my weaknesses through the leadership training, which was beneficial because it allowed me to develop new skills for better relationships with others. The training helped me to gain knowledge about the importance of businesses and understand many business-related terms I didn’t know before, thanks to the training. I learned a lot while developing social impact projects and had the opportunity to interview future customers for our products. It was great to listen to other people's ideas for society.
